One person died and three others were seriously injured in a crash Monday on the New Jersey Turnpike in Burlington County, State Police said.
Troopers responded around 2:10 p.m. to a report of a crash in the northbound lanes at milepost 39.1 in Mount Laurel.
Police said a car was traveling north and exiting the turnpike to the James Fenimore Cooper Service Area when it entered the right shoulder. The car struck the rear of a parked commercial vehicle with an attached roll-off trailer that had stopped due to a mechanical malfunction.
A passenger in the car died after being ejected, authorities said. The car’s driver and two other passengers suffered serious injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital.
No other injuries were reported.
The victims’ names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.
The crash remains under investigation, police said. No additional information was available Tuesday morning.
