A 10-year-old boy died after being struck by a vehicle in Van Buren County on Thursday.
At around 8:12 a.m., the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office (VBCSO) received a call that a child was struck by a car in the 72000 block of 22nd Street in Porter Township.
A vehicle was traveling southbound and struck the boy just outside the southbound lane, VBCSO said.
The 10-year-old boy ran across the road to get mail, turned around to return, and was struck by a vehicle.
He was transported to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. The boy's family confirmed to News Channel 3 that he did not survive.
An investigation is in its preliminary stages currently. The superintendent of Mattawan Public Schools, which the boy was a part of, released the following statement:

Through the investigation, detectives will be able to determine the point of impact, the vehicle's speed, whether the driver is at fault or not, and more.
The driver of the vehicle, a 38-year-old woman, has been cooperative, VBCSO said to News Channel 3. She called 911 immediately after the collision.
