ALMENA TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 10-year-old boy is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle in Van Buren County on Thursday.
At around 8:13 a.m., the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office (VBCSO) received a call that a child was struck by a car in the 7200 block of 22nd Street in Almena Township.
A vehicle was traveling southbound and struck the boy just outside the southbound lane, VBCSO said.
The 10-year-old boy ran across the road to get mail, turned around to return, and was struck by a vehicle.
He was transported to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo while unconscious and in critical condition.
Detectives are on scene doing an accident reconstruction and gathering evidence. The investigation is in its preliminary stages currently.
Through the investigation, detectives will be able to determine the point of impact, the vehicle's speed, whether the driver is at fault or not, and more.
The driver of the vehicle has been cooperative, VBCSO said to News Channel 3.
