Bruckhart said only one vehicle is believed to have been involved. He said the car struck a tree then burst into flames, between Adeline Street and Printer's Lane.
A body was found in the rear seat of the car once the fire was put out, Bruckhart said.
Bruckhart said that, shortly after, authorities were notified of another victim of the crash at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Bruckhart said the victim, a 40-year-old man, was transported by a private vehicle and died at the hospital.
The identities of both victims are pending next of kin notification, Bruckhart said.
