TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBMA) — A 21-year-old Tuscaloosa woman was killed early Sunday morning in a seven-vehicle crash on Interstate 359, according to the Tuscaloosa Police Department.
Police said the initial crash happened around 2 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-359. The woman and another driver had gotten out of their vehicles following that first collision when a second crash occurred involving five additional vehicles. Both drivers were struck during the chain reaction.
The woman died at the scene, police said. Five other people were taken to DCH Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
As of Sunday morning, the southbound lanes of I-359 remained closed while investigators with TPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit processed the scene. The Northport Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit also responded to assist.
The crash remains under investigation.
