Traffic on I-495 appeared to be backed up for eight miles after a crash shut the northbound side of the highway in Andover Monday night.
Three people were seriously hurt in a crash involving multiple vehicles on Interstate 495 in Andover, Massachusetts, during the evening rush on Monday, police said.
The northbound side of the highway was closed at mile marker 95.7 for about an hour as first responders cleared the crash, according to Massachusetts State Police.

They didn’t say what led to the pileup. The Andover Fire Department had noted that multiple ambulances were called to the scene, near the exit to Route 133, and that the crash involved a rollover.
Video from the scene showed a tractor-trailer and other vehicles being towed. Traffic appeared to be backed up for eight miles.
State police said the crash took place about 5:40 p.m. and the highway reopened about 6:40 p.m.
Massachusetts Department of Transportation said two lanes of the highway northbound were closed at at Exit 97 in Tewksbury, which neighbors Andover. It wasn’t immediately clear if that incident was related to the crash in Andover, but the agency later said all lanes of the highway were closed at Exit 92.
