APPOMATTOX COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — The Virginia State Police is investigating a crash that happened on Route 460 on Friday afternoon, involving a tractor-trailer, a truck, and an Appomattox County Public Schools bus.
It happened around 4:30 p.m. on October 31 in the 13600 block of Richmond Highway (Route 460).
Kids were on the bus at the time, and Virginia State Police said the bus was stopped to drop students off. Early investigation shows that a tractor-trailer was traveling west when it hit a Chevy pickup truck. The impact forced the pickup off the road, causing it to overturn and hit a juvenile who had just gotten off the bus. The tractor-trailer then hit the rear of the school bus.
The juvenile, along with two people from inside the pickup truck, were flown to area hospitals with life-threatening injuries. Another person who was in the pickup was transported by ambulance to a hospital.
Seven children were on the bus at the time of the crash. State police said five of those were being taken by their parents to be checked out at a medical facility.
The investigation is ongoing, and charges are pending at this time.
