ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) — Eight members of the Anaheim High School running team were hurt when a vehicle plowed into them at a street intersection Wednesday afternoon, police said.
According to the Anaheim Police Department, the group of high school students were waiting at the intersection of Harbor Boulevard and W. North Street when they were hit by a car that went off the road just before 3 p.m.
Eight teens, between 16 and 17 years old, were hurt and three people required immediate transports, including the 27-year-old driver, authorities said. They were taken to the hospital in unknown condition.
The agency says they are investigating this as a possible DUI. The driver has been detained.
Police said a coach was running with the students and was coming up to the intersection when he witnessed the crash. Another coach told Eyewitness News that one of the injured runners was in critical condition.
School resource officers were on scene following the incident.
