The woman – who is 80 years old – was taken to Midstate Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, according to police. Her identity is unknown.
Investigators believe the woman was crossing Broad Street between Westfield Road and Washington Middle School when a 79-year-old man struck her.
Police said the area was well-lit, but visibility was limited by terrain and the nearest crosswalk was about 300 feet away.
The man briefly took off before approaching an officer and informing them of his involvement. He is cooperating with police.
The police department’s accident investigation team is investigating.
