A 9-year-old boy was struck and killed while crossing the street outside of a Chicago elementary school Thursday morning and the driver is now facing charges, according to authorities.
The incident happened around 7:41 a.m. in the 4800 block of West Walton, where a woman driving a light-colored Chevy sedan struck a child on the street.

According to police, the woman was driving westbound on Walton when she hit a 9-year-old who was on the street. The child was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
The driver was taken into custody and police said charges are pending.
The crash happened near the Ronald McNair Elementary School, though it was not immediately known if the child was a student at the school.
Parents at the school told NBC Chicago they have been requesting crossing guards in the area and warned of repeated instances of dangerous drivers.
