THERE are significant delays on the M57 in Knowsley following reports that a car crashed and caught fire.
A serious incident is reported to have taken place on the M57 northbound carriageway at around 3.05pm on Wednesday, September 10.
Initial reports state that a car left the motorway and caught on fire in a crash on the northbound carriageway close to junction 3 in Knowsley. It is understood that only one car is involved in the incident.
Emergency services are currently at the scene and road closures are in place in both directions as officers deal with the incident.
There are already severe delays following the incident, with congestion backed up to junction 2 in Prescot. Motorists are being advised to avoid the area and use diversions if necessary.
Merseyside Police say that further updates will be issued once available.
