On September 9, 2025, at approximately 2:52 p.m., Troopers from SP Rochester, along with members of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), responded to a report of a serious motor vehicle accident on Interstate 590 southbound in the town of Brighton, Monroe County.
Investigation determined that a 67-year-old male operator of a 1973 Chevrolet Corvette was traveling south when he attempted to pass a 2016 International Harvester garbage truck, striking it. The impact forced the Corvette to the right, where it became wrapped around the front of the garbage truck, causing it to catch fire.
The operator of the Corvette was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The garbage truck driver, identified as Jennifer A. Somora, age 43, of Spencerport, NY, and a passenger, Cristian Prosper Ruiz, age 22, of Rochester, NY, were not injured. No signs of impairment were observed from the garbage truck driver.
This is an ongoing investigation.
