The restomodded 911 rocks an upgraded 3.5-liter flat-six with a GT3 air intake plenum and new throttle bodies
Podcaster and comedian Joe Rogan has built up an extensive car collection, and earlier this year added a heavily modified Tesla Model S Plaid to the mix. The Texas-based entertainer is also a long-time Porsche 911 enthusiast, having taken delivery of a custom-built 911 from Gunther Werks a couple of years ago. Now he has expanded his garage once again with another bespoke 911.

This particular 911 RSR tribute has been brought to life by The RSR Project. It started out life as a 1980s 911, just like all others built by the New York-based company. The original tub has been retained but galvanized and stripped down, before being complemented with steel fender flares, custom fiberglass bumpers, and a ducktail spoiler.
Built for the Drive
The restomodder then disassembled the bottom end of the original engine before installing new bushings, bearings, seals, springs, and valves, while also resurfacing the cylinder heads. The flat-six now also includes twin-plug heads, a GT3 air intake plenum, Clewett Engineering throttle bodies, new cams, fuel injectors, ignition coils, and an Emtron SL ECU. These changes allow the engine to deliver around 300 hp, which is more than enough for a car as light like this one.
There’s a lot going on with the cabin of the car, too. It has been stripped back and reupholstered and now includes a new Porsche Classic dash. New carpets have been installed alongside custom fixed-shell bucket seats clad in black vinyl with nickel grommets, inspired by those of the original Ford GT40.
There’s also now a Momo Prototipo steering wheel, a short shifter, and a modern air conditioning system. While The RSR Project offers modern sound systems in its cars, Rogan opted against any technology or audio upgrades.
Company founder Richard Schickman describes each RSR Project car as a machine to be used, not stored away. “Every RSR we create is built to be driven and enjoyed thoroughly,” he explained, noting that Rogan’s example was tested over 700 miles before delivery to ensure it delivers the visceral experience intended.
Yeah, It’s Expensive
Starting at $375,000, these bespoke 911s rarely leave the workshop without a higher final tally, thanks to the near-limitless scope for customization.
