The two westbound lanes on Route 6 in Sandwich, at the intersection of Route 130, were closed midday on Thursday, Sept. 18, due to a crash. Side roads were also clogged, including Route 6A westbound from Quaker Meetinghouse Road in Sandwich. The highway lanes were open by 3:45 p.m., the state police said.
A pursuit by the Barnstable Police Department began around 11:25 a.m. on Route 132 in Barnstable. The police were pursuing a Ford F150 that failed to stop after being involved in a two-car crash, according to a report from the state police issued Thursday afternoon.
The F150 evaded local police and traveled onto Route 6 headed west.
A state trooper in an unmarked cruiser began following the F150 west on Route 6. The truck reached speeds of approximately 90 miles per hour, leading other state troopers farther west to prepare to place stop sticks in the road if needed, according to the report.
At 11:31 a.m., the F150 was moving in and out of traffic on Route 6 westbound, and in the breakdown lane, when it crashed into another vehicle. Right after the crash, troopers put up stop sticks to end the pursuit. The crash was near the 55.7 mile marker.
At the scene, officials said a person was ejected from a vehicle, and a handful of cars were sideswiped.
The driver of the F150, a man in his 20s, was taken with serious injuries to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford.
State police accident construction crews were at the scene. State police continue to investigate the incident.
