Worcester County has donated four retired Chevy Tahoe SUVs to the Automotive Technology (AT) garage bays at Worcester Technical High School. 
The handover occurred after the Worcester County Commissioners voted unanimously to donate these high-mileage, county vehicles to the AT program instead of selling them for a nominal one-time return through an online auction marketplace.
“While these aged vehicles may no longer meet county fleet needs, they run just fine and hold tremendous value as training resources for workforce development,” Commissioner President Ted Elder said. “When you weigh the benefits, donating these vehicles just makes good sense.”
By redirecting surplus assets into the classroom, the commissioners are helping WTHS provide career-ready education while ensuring taxpayer resources continue to generate value for the community.
“We are very grateful to the County Commissioners for their generous donation of surplus vehicles to the AT program,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Annette Wallace said. “This partnership provides our students with invaluable, hands-on learning opportunities to equip them with the skills and experiences needed to succeed in real-world careers within the automotive industry. Career and technology education programs like AT are a vital part of preparing our students for the future, and this donation strengthens that mission.”
The AT program at WTHS is designed to prepare students to attend trade school, join the military, or step into in-demand careers in automotive technology after graduation.
