A teaser from Italdesign hints at the return of one of Japan’s most popular sports cars in a new form.
A new project is taking shape in Italy, where Italdesign is preparing a mystery model that will serve as a tribute to the legendary Honda NSX. Very little is known about the car, but reimagining one of the most iconic sports cars to ever leave Japan will not be easy. If Italdesign doesn’t get it right, enthusiasts will definitely let it know.
The design house shared news of the project through a recent social media post. The teaser image was understated, showing only the Honda and NSX badges set against a blue background, with Italdesign’s logo neatly placed at the bottom.

It looks like the VW Group-owned studio has been given the green light by Honda itself to build a new tribute model from the ground up, perhaps similar to what Lamborghini itself did with the Aventador-based Countach LPI 800-4. We have no idea if that will be a one-off study or a limited-edition special yet.
Unless Italdesign surprises with a nod to the second-generation car, all signs suggest the tribute will focus on the first-generation NSX. That model proved a sports car could deliver both speed and reliability in spades, combining sharp performance with everyday usability in a way that reset expectations for the segment
The original NSX was designed in-house by Honda, but a concept version of it was introduced in 1984 with styling from none other than Pininfarina. The first-gen model has aged gracefully, and it would serve as the perfect base for a new version.
