COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Pediatric experts with Prisma Health are warning new parents about a rise in the sale of counterfeit car seats for children.
According to Kenishia Golden-Smith with the children’s hospital, to ensure authenticity, always check for warning and safety labels on the inside and outside of the car seat.
These labels will indicate height and weight limits, the seat’s expiration date, and make and model information.
An authentic seat will also come with a manual and a registration card.
Counterfeit models are often available for purchase at a heavily discounted rate.
She says they tend to be lighter in weight, and may have straps and chest clips that are made from poor materials.
If you believe you have purchased a counterfeit model, Golden-Smith says you can reach out to the children’s hospital for help authenticating it.
