CAJON PASS, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A vehicle fire along the northbound I-15 in the Cajon Pass quickly spread into nearby vegetation Wednesday afternoon, sending flames 300 feet uphill and burning about 3 acres, according to San Bernardino County Fire.
The incident was reported at about 2:19 p.m. on September 24, 2025, near Blue Cut and Cleghorn Road. Emergency radio traffic indicated the vehicle, a Cadillac, was fully engulfed on the right shoulder when firefighters arrived.
Scanner reports stated the blaze ignited surrounding brush and began climbing the hillside. CHP helicopter H80, which circled overhead, confirmed flames had extended approximately 300 feet uphill.
San Bernardino County Fire assigned multiple engines and crews to the response as black smoke became visible from the freeway. Firefighters reported moderate fuels and a moderate rate of spread.
The California Highway Patrol logs indicated that all occupants safely exited the vehicle. Motorists traveling through the area shared photos and video showing thick smoke and visible flames along the northbound lanes.
As of 2:30 p.m., fire crews were actively working to contain the spread. No injuries were immediately reported.
