RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – The Academy of Careers and Technology is offering a new community education class, Intro to Radio-Controlled R/C Cars and Trucks.
Students will learn about different scales and types, including crawlers, racers, buggies, drift cars, and monster trucks. Also, a variety of tires: servos, motors, shocks, batteries, chargers, and radios.
“It’s a way to get people involved, sort of like a sport even,” said Adult Education Coordinator Kevin Bolen. “We’re teamed up with one of the local businesses, Extreme Sports, and they’re offering a discount package deal.”
According to Bolen, people who want to purchase the build ($299 Traxxas Slash)
will be able to create a kit as they experience the program.
“But it’s also open to people who already have a kit that they could learn about different electric speed controls, gear ratios, tire sizes, suspension, oil field shocks versus non-lethal shocks,” Bolen said. “Just a difference in the type of vehicles, how to set them up, those types of things.”
