But year-on-year figures still subdued amid weak BEV demand
Brussels – New car registrations in Europe grew 5.3% year-on-year in August to 677,786 units, marking the second month of consecutive growth.
Year-to-date, however, demand edged down marginally, by 0.1%, to 7,168,848 units, compared to 7,179,268 units posted for the same period last year, according to data published by ACEA*.
The battery-electric car market share for the first eight months of the year held at 15.8%, up from 12.6% last year but “still below the pace needed at this stage of the transition.”
Hybrid-electric car market remained the most popular power type amongst buyers, capturing 34.7% of the market during the eight-month period.
Meanwhile, the combined market share of petrol and diesel cars fell to 37.5%, down from 47.6% over the same period in 2024.
