FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — A Sunnyside High School senior is now driving a brand new car because pf her excellence at school.
Mia Salcedo is the youngest of four children and has attended the annual 4.0 & Above Program at the Big Fresno Fair all four years of high school.
Sher says t wasn't always easy to maintain her GPA, but is happy to see her hard work pay off.
"I know I've been struggling to keep my grades up which it just like pushes me forward and it's this type of reward that motivates people to keep going to keep achieving that 4.0 and above which is just amazing," Mia says.
Mia's mother and niece shared the special moment with her.
They even got a little emotional.
The brand new car wasn't the only prize.
Dozens of other middle and high school students were also awarded for their academics, taking home thousands of dollars in scholarships.
This special event, now in its 13th year, recognizes all 8th – 12th grade students in Fresno County who earned a 4.0 GPA or higher as of June 2025.
Since its launch, the 4.0 & Above Program has awarded more than $874,000 in scholarships and given away 12 Toyota Corollas, along with countless other prizes.
The program is made possible by generous sponsors and donors who believe in rewarding academic achievement.
