According to State Highway Patrol, a Toyota Sequoia was traveling south on Old Stage Road, ran off the road toward, hit a fence and then crashed into a home on Gentle Valley Lane.
The driver, 39-year-old Deandre Allen of Raleigh, along with a person inside the home, were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries.
SHP charged Allen with careless and reckless driving and driving while license revoked.
“It kind of hurt my heart. I just realized that we didn’t have anywhere to stay right now,” said Ashawante McNeil, who lives in the home.
McNeil tells WRAL her family, including her 3-month-old baby, are forced to leave behind most of their belongings and find other places to live.
“Most of my stuff is still in the room and the baby stuff is in the room. My brother’s stuff is in his room too,” said McNeil.
Neighbors told WRAL News they felt the impact of the crash in their home next door, saying they were worried the woman who lived there was hurt when they saw the car crashed into her bedroom.
Thankfully, the homeowner will be okay. Neighbors believe a tree blocked some of the impact of the crash and helped save the woman’s life.
Neighbors told WRAL News crashes have impacted the small community on previous occasions.
“This has happened multiple times already,” said Genesis Duron, who lives in a mobile home next door to the home that was hit.
Duron said she was in her kitchen when she heard a car hit her neighbor’s home.
“A lot of neighbors have damage on their trailers already. We’re trying to see if somebody can build some other type of protection, at least for the people who live on the side of the street,” Duron said.
McNeil hopes something is done to make the neighborhood safer soon.
“I think they probably need a better fence not a wooden fence. Probably a metal fence that maybe a little bit higher,” said McNeil.
Neighbors said they saw what looked like deputies helping the driver out of the car, who was then taken away in an ambulance.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said injuries were reported, but it is unclear how badly anyone was hurt.
