Three men were transported to the hospital after a three-car collision just after 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, on the Scenic Highway in Bourne that temporarily closed the busy road, according to police and fire department information. By 4:45 p.m. police reported the four-lane highway was partially opened, with one lane in each direction closed while utility repair work is performed.
A 23-year-old person from Carver, with life-threatening injuries, was transported by Plymouth rescue to Tobey Hospital in Wareham. Another was later transported by Bourne ambulance to Tobey Hospital. The third individual was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by Sandwich rescue, according to David Pelonzi, the Bourne fire chief.
The road between Edgehill Road and Herring Pond Road remained fully closed until 4:45 p.m., according to a Bourne Police Department press release.
Each of the three vehicles involved in the crash held one person.
Around 1:18 p.m. Bourne Fire Department reported the incident and responded to the scene. A 2022 red Hyundai Kona, operated by the 23-year-old, was on fire. Firefighters were able to knock the fire down immediately.
The two other vehicles included a 2010 Blue Audi Q5, operated by a 46-year-old man from Lowell, and a 2025 Green BMW X1 operated by a 53-year-old man from Truro, according to the press release and police information.
Bourne fire crews left the scene around 3 p.m. Bourne police were still on the scene at that time, according to Pelonzi.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
