The Fortuner is already ten years old but Indian customers get a Leader Edition instead of a new generation
The Toyota Fortuner, the 4Runner’s more worldly equivalent for emerging markets, has gained a new special edition in India. Called the Leader Edition, it throws on a few sporty details and extra accessories in a bid to keep the decade-old SUV feeling just fresh enough to stay in the game.

Introduced in 2015 and given a facelift in 2020, the current-generation Fortuner rides on the same ladder-frame platform as the Hilux. Its rivals include the Ford Everest (Endeavour), Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, and Isuzu MU-X, each a three-row SUV built on midsize pickup foundations.
Keeping Interest Alive
While everyone’s still waiting for Toyota to finally roll out a new generation of the Fortuner, the brand’s Indian arm, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, has decided to keep the show going with the 2025 Leader Edition. It follows last year’s version, which apparently drew an “overwhelming response”, or so the company claims.
The latest version stands out with a new grille design and a body kit that tones things down slightly from the previous model. It adds a front bumper extension with a chrome splitter, matching side garnishes featuring Fortuner lettering, and a new rear skirt.
The six-spoke alloy wheels get a glossy black finish, while the paint options include Attitude Black, Pearl White, Silver Metallic, and Super White, each paired with a contrasting black roof.
Cabin Updates
The seven-seat interior of the Fortuner is starting to show its age, especially next to the Hilux, which is gearing up for its next generation. Still, Toyota has made a few tweaks to keep things interesting.
There’s a new black-and-maroon bi-tone finish across the seats and door panels, illuminated scuff plates, and a small aftermarket-style tire pressure monitoring display perched at the base of the windshield.

The special edition is exclusively available in RWD form, with the standard 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine generating 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 500 Nm (368.8 lb-ft) of torque. Buyers have the option between a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. However, they can’t get the 4WD system or the mild-hybrid diesel that is available in other trims, including the flagship Fortuner GR-S.
Toyota will begin taking orders for the 2025 Fortuner Leader Edition in India later this month. Prices haven’t been confirmed, though the rest of the Fortuner range currently spans ₹39.02–57.80 lakh ($43,900–65,100), so expect this version to land somewhere in the middle.
