CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WJAR) — The driver of a car was seriously injured in a collision with a school bus Thursday morning in Cumberland.
The crash happened on Nate Whipple Highway at about 9:30 a.m.
The school superintendent said no students were on the bus. It was headed back to the bus yard after finishing its run.
Images from the scene showed a station wagon that was heavily damaged.
Neighbors say they heard a loud noise, ran outside, saw the station wagon on fire and called 911.
They said the driver of the car was seriously injured.
"He was bleeding from his arm and his hand, but he was going into shock and we had to try to get him down on the ground, making sure he wasn't having any internal injuries as best as we could tell, and get him down and when he was laying down, he started going, turning blue," Susan Bacon said.
