From new rides and attractions to expansions in dining, shopping, and hotel amenities, Walt Disney World is constantly changing. However, 2025 has been perhaps the most significant year for the resort, maybe ever, with large-scale projects and overhauls happening all around.
Construction walls now line several areas inside parks like Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom, which are set to receive brand-new locations.
Beginning today, guests can get a first-hand look at some of the upcoming developments at Walt Disney World, including Monstropolis, Piston Peak, and Tropical Americas.
Guests can stop by Walt Disney Presents at Disney’s Hollywood Studios to see what’s coming to Disney World soon. Artwork and other assets are on display, giving visitors an idea of what they can expect Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios to look like when all is said and done.

All three of these projects were confirmed during Disney’s D23 event in August 2024. Disney Parks and Experiences chairman Josh D’Amaro took center stage, delivering updates on a number of projects, expansions, and ideas Disney Imagineering had been working on.
Some of these projects, like the revamping of Animal Kingdom’s DinoLand U.S.A., had already been announced by Disney previously, whereas Monstropolis and Piston Peak were brand-new developments.
These projects are certain to be exciting for fans, though they are also controversial. Disney is taking an “out with the old, in with the new approach,” closing several fan-favorite attractions and locations over the course of 2025. Perhaps the biggest loss was the closure of Tom Sawyer Island at Magic Kingdom.
This interactive and immersive playground was one of Disney World’s most unique experiences, allowing travelers to explore the island based on Mark Twain’s writing at their own leisure. This area of the park will lead to Piston Peak, a national park based on Cars.
This summer also marked the end of Muppet*Vision 3D, a 4D theater show starring Kermit the Frog. Located inside Muppets Courtyard, this attraction had been a staple of the park for decades. It, along with restaurants like PizzeRizzo and Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, closed permanently to make way for Monstropolis, a new land inspired by Pixar’s Monsters Inc.
Monstropolis will feature a number of new experiences to enjoy, including a suspended roller coaster.
The rest of DinoLand U.S.A. at Animal Kingdom will close on February 2, 2026, making way for the repark’s new land, Tropical Americas.
All three of these expansions are expected to be complete in 2027.
