DJR rocked by Tony D’Alberto crash, issues for #38
D’Alberto crashed out at Forrest's Elbow on lap 54
Sister #38 car nursing suspected clutch issue
Whilst one Shell V-Power Racing Team Mustang remains well within reach of claiming the team's first Bathurst win since 2019, the other became the first to be bitten by the Mountain in the 2025 Great Race.
Dick Johnson Racing’s Bathurst campaign was in disarray through 60 laps, with Tony D’Alberto crashing out of the race amid suspected issues for the lead sister car.
D’Alberto caused the first Safety Car intervention of the 2025 Great Race after a big hit at Forrest’s Elbow.
The #17 Shell V-Power Ford Mustang was running in 13th place behind Lee Holdsworth's TRADIE Energy Camaro when D’Alberto clipped the inside wall on lap 54.
It sent the #17 Ford into the outside concrete, with D’Alberto out on the spot. It was a devastating end for Davison/D’Alberto, which started the race in 14th.
The crash came amid car issues for the pole-winning #38 Shell V-Power Mustang of Brodie Kostecki/Todd Hazelwood.
The car was nursing suspected clutch issues, with the team bracing to bleed the clutch through the stops. Later, the team also reported suspected alternator problems.
Ironically, Kostecki cycled back to the race lead behind the Safety Car, before running off the road at The Chase as rain arrived following a second Safety Car for Chaz Mostert.
Kostecki rounded up Cam Waters at The Cutting before handing over to Hazelwood under another Safety Car.
