Would you buy a hybrid minivan with over 600 miles of driving range on one tank of gas?
Toyota’s newest minivan, the Sienna, is one of the most unique van options on the market due to its standard hybrid powertrain. The large minivan achieves incredible fuel economy, making it a great option for families.
The Sienna is so efficient that it gets more driving range on a single tank of gas than many cars, trucks and SUVs despite its large size.
Toyota’s Sienna standard hybrid minivan earns 36 miles per gallon in the city and 36 miles per gallon on the highway. The minivan uses two electric motors to help the four-cylinder gas engine burn less fuel while driving power to the wheels. It has an 18-gallon gas tank, granting the large vehicle a whopping 648 miles of driving range.
The 2025 Toyota Sienna is one of the few standard hybrid minivans on the market. Typically, such large vehicles are gas guzzlers due to their size. In the 2021 model year, Toyota made the Sienna nameplate a hybrid-only model. Aside from incredible fuel economy for its segment, the Sienna has a solid value proposition for many drives because of its affordable pricing.
The average new vehicle costs around $48,841, according to personal finance site MoneyGeek.com. The 2025 Toyota Sienna LE base model starts at just $39,485, making it significantly more affordable than the average new vehicle.
The base model Sienna features standard dual power sliding side doors, a remoite keyless entry system with push-button start, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also includes full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, lane tracing assist, and a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection.
The 2025 Toyota Sienna is one of the best in its class when it comes to efficiency, but some of its key rivals deliver more competition on performance and interior design. The Honda Odyssey produces more horsepower (280 horses) using its V6 engine.
It also has a slightly larger standard infotainment screen and about 54 more cubic feet of cargo space than the Sienna behind its first row of seats. Other major players in the van segment include the Kia Carnival and Chrysler Pacifica.
The 2026 Kia Carnival is also more powerful than the Sienna and has a much larger standard infotainment screen (12.3 inches). Chrysler’s Pacifica van offers more cargo space than the Sienna (140 cubic feet behind first row compared to 101 cubic feet). It’s praised for its easily manueverable seats and powertrain options.
The 2025 Toyota Sienna is the best minivan for 2025, according to Edmunds. If you can look past its major shortcomings such as a lack of power and cargo space compared to rivals, it’s easy to love. Drivers looking for a large van to commute with that won’t cause gas station heartaches on road trips will appreciate the Sienna’s stellar fuel economy.
If the base model 2025 Toyota Sienna LE is too barebones for your tastes, an upgrade to the XLE trim will cost a total of $44,295. It features a larger 12.3-inch infotainment screen, SofTex-trimmed seats and a power tilt/slide moonroof. The Sienna isn’t the best choice for driving enthusiasts, but if you’re in need of an efficient van with incredible driving range on a single tank, it’s tough to beat.
