Three persons died after a speeding car that descended from the newly inaugurated G.D. Naidu Flyover in Coimbatore rammed a stationary truck at Goldwins on Avinashi Road early on Monday (October 13, 2025).
The police said that H. Arif, 20, and Sheik Hussain, 20, of Ondipudur, and P. Sathyapriya, 17, of Selvapuram died in the accident.
The accident occurred around 1.30 a.m. when the car descended from the flyover to Avinashi Road at Goldwins, towards Tiruppur side. The car was moving along the lane close to the median, before the driver lost its control around 80 metres off the flyover. Tyre marks on the road indicated that the car made a sudden turn to the left side and rammed a truck that was parked on the side of the road.
The sedan was completely mangled in the impact of the collision and the three persons died on the spot. The police and fire brigades rushed to the spot and retrieved the mangled car by lifting the truck’s rear side using a crane.
The bodies of the deceased were shifted to the Government Medical College and ESI Hospital for post-mortem examination.
A pileup of three cars, reportedly due to speeding, was reported on the flyover late on Sunday (October 12). Police sources said that many vehicles were exceeding the speed limit of 60 kmph on the flyover. The speed limit for up and down ramps is 40 kmph.
