ESSEX Police have charged a 52-year-old man with murder following the death of 28-year-old man who died after he was hit by a car in Basildon.
Suspect Hayadulla Turkmani, 52, of Langdale Gardens, Hornchurch, was formally charged with murder by officers yesterday.
He was remanded into custody and was due to appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court today.
Devastated family members have paid heartfelt tribute to Michael Ashton, 28, from the Langdon Hills area in Basildon who died on Saturday, October 4, following catastrophic injuries after he was hit by a car around midnight on Rosecroft Close on Friday, September 26.
His family said he was a kind and hardworking young man who didn’t have a “bad bone in his body”, Essex Police said Michael’s family are being supported by specialist officers.
A statement issued by Essex Police on behalf of Michal’s family said: “Michael was the most hardworking, fun, loving, and likeable person that anyone could wish to meet.
“He was dearly loved by his family, his girlfriend, and the endless list of friends he had. He is also very much missed by his workmates at the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham Council.
“He will be sadly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.
“Michael had the most beautiful aura and lit up every room he entered with his handsome looks, his smile, and his warm personality.
“He was loved by everyone and had such a kind soul — he didn’t have a bad bone in his body.
“Michael’s family are devastated and grieving at this traumatic and deeply sad time.
“They take comfort in knowing how loved he was and how many lives he brightened just by being himself.”
A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and subsequently released on bail while police continued their investigation into the incident.
