BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – The Pinnacle Financial Partners of Bowling Green partnered with the National Auto Body Council (NABC) to bring for their first responder emergency education program to Bowling Green.
As hyper cars and electric vehicles gain popularity, their advanced technology can present significant dangers, making rescue efforts more complex for first responders; which is why modern advanced training is key.
This program offers first responders hands-on training, teaching them how to safely and efficiently remove victims from crashed vehicles. This includes crucial instruction on using advanced tools like the Jaws of Life.
“You don’t want somebody on the side of the road in the middle of the night when you’re trapped in a car Googling how to cut into your vehicle,” explains Alan Scrimmager, a board of director member for the National Auto Body Council. “By having hands-on training with the equipment that they use at the fire department, they get to learn how to get somebody out, how to take care of them, how to protect the victim and themselves, and do it as efficiently as possible.”
Scrimmager emphasizes that this training is critical for all fire departments, especially volunteer ones.
“What we find is that the smaller departments, which see a lot of the terrible, terrible accidents on two-lane roads and on rural highways, they don’t have the funds to do this type of training. So that’s why we invite them instead of the large metropolis or metro fire departments.”
The program started in a classroom setting with an instructor informing fire fighters of the different tools and methods that are used in an accident.
Following this, volunteer firefighters gained practical experience, cutting into late-model vehicles generously donated through the NABC program.
The National Auto Body Council is committed to continuing this vital training as often as possible to ensure first responders are equipped for any challenge.
