Porsche has just announced a new Macan Electric with a focus on handling, and it could be the sweet spot in the range. News Editor Jamie Edkins explains why.
This is the new Porsche Macan Electric GTS, and it sits bang in the middle of the 4S and the Turbo. It has 571hp, air suspension tuned for finer handling and some styling tweaks to help it stand out.
Order books are open now, with prices starting from £89,000. That makes it pretty much a direct alternative to the Audi SQ6 e-tron and top-spec versions of the Mercedes EQE SUV.

At first glance, the Porsche Macan Electric range can seem a touch confusing – so let me break it down for you.
It kicks off with the standard, rear-wheel drive Macan, then there’s the Macan 4 Electric which adds another electric motor and four-wheel drive. The 4S has a bit more power than the 4, then you have the flagship Turbo with 639hp and a blistering 0-60mph time of 3.3 seconds.
The GTS badge signifies a focus on handling over outright speed, and you can get GTS versions of the 911, the Panamera and the Cayenne. It sits between the 4S and the Turbo, both in terms of price and power.
The Macan GTS is powered by a pair of electric motors which make a combined 571hp, and that’s enough shove to do 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds. That’s over half a second quicker than the Audi SQ6 e-tron
The top speed is also limited to 155mph, 7mph less than the Turbo but 6mph more than the 4S.
It uses the same 100kWh battery as the standard Macan Electric, and in the GTS it delivers 363 miles of range. That’s actually three miles less than the Turbo, but it’s around five miles further than the Audi SQ6 e-tron can go.
The GTS badge is applied to Porsche’s with a focus on handling, and the new Macan GTS Electric has been given a few tweaks to make it more fun in the corners.
The air suspension has been tuned specifically for this car. It’s 10mm lower than any other Macan Electric, which in turn lowers the centre of gravity and reduces body roll in the corners.
You can also make your GTS even more agile by fitting it with the optional rear-wheel steering, which turns the rear wheels in the opposite direction to the fronts to help it turn in tighter. It can also aid high-speed stability by turning all four wheels in the same direction if needed.
The Macan GTS Electric has some additional electrical gubbins to make it feel more responsive, such as a torque vectoring system and a locking differential which helps send power to the wheel with the most traction. The hardware for this is also placed behind the rear motor, helping Porsche to achieve almost a perfect 50:50 weight distribution for added balance.
Porsche’s GTS models can be identified by a few unique design touches, such as the blacked-out trim around the windows and front grille. The headlights also have a black tint to them, and you get some additional black side skirts for a more aggressive appearance.
This deep red paint scheme isn’t unique to the GTS, but it is synonymous with Porsche’s sporty models. The front and rear bumpers are also deeper and more aggressive-looking.
Changes to the interior are a bit more subtle. A suede-like material covers the steering wheel and the centre console, and you get body-hugging sports seats as well. You can colour match the stitching to the exterior colour as well, and there are plenty of carbon fibre trim options to choose from.
I’ve always said that Porsche’s GTS models strike the right balance between speed and handling. I find the Turbo and Turbo S models to be a bit too fast to properly utilise on UK back roads, something I discovered after living with a Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid for a while.
The GTS versions are more than fast enough, and the suspension tweaks make them more fun to enjoy on a British B-road.
The Macan Electric GTS is available to order now, and you can expect to see the first cars hit showrooms in early 2026. I’ll be intrigued to have a go to find out how these suspension changes affect the driving experience.
