A man has been arrested after a schoolgirl was hit by a car. Merseyside Police were called to Liscard Road in Wallasey this morning at the junction of Alverstone Road at around 7.50am.
It was reported that a a black Mitsubishi car had struck a 13-year-old girl on Liscard Road. The child sustained a serious injury to her collarbone, along with cuts and bruises to her leg and foot. She has been taken to hospital. Following the incident, Liscard Road from the junction of Falkland Road was cordoned off. Alverstone Road was also closed.
Officers then carried out enquiries in the area. The roads reopened at 9.10am.
A 48-year-old man from Seacombe has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving, suspected to be under the influence of cannabis. He is currently in police custody to be questioned.
A woman living on Alverstone Road said she rushed out to help the schoolgirl. She told the ECHO: “I didn’t see anything, I just heard something.
“I ran over to her. I was sitting outside my house with a cigarette. That’s when I came running out.
“She seemed alright. There were other schoolgirls with her. I was on the phone to the ambulance and they said it would take an hour and a half but an ambulance driver drove past and saw us. I’m still shaking now.”
Another woman living on the road added: “I didn’t see anything but I heard a girl screaming. Then I saw two people carrying her.”
A man walking on Liscard Road added: “A young girl was knocked over. I was walking my dog and saw all the police and the ambulance. This was at about 7.30am this morning."
