The new BYD pickup truck applied for patents in the European Union, revealing its exterior styling. The EU Intellectual Property Office shared the registered design file information dedicated to this car on October 23. The new model will become the entry-level car in the Shark series, currently represented by the Shark 6.
The new pickup truck from BYD was previously spotted in China during road tests in May 2025. This vehicle was covered with thick protective film. However, CarNewsChina pointed out that the new model adopts the Dynasty design language. It looked quite similar to the BYD Sealion 6 (Song Plus / Seal-U). On October 23, detailed patent images of the entry-level Shark were shared by the EU regulator.
It is worth noting that the EU Intellectual Property Office registered the design of the new pickup truck from BYD. This step indicates this model’s overseas ambitions. The first model under the Shark series – the Shark 6 – still hasn’t made it to the domestic market despite being sold worldwide for over a year. CarNewsChina assumes that the new truck also aims primarily at global markets, including Europe, Latin America, and Australia.
Patent images show that the new model adopts a unibody. There is a high chance that this vehicle is a ute variant of the BYD Song Plus crossover first revealed in 2020. These cars have similar front ends, fenders, and doors. The new Shark-series car has a relatively short open bed. Its proportions strongly remind us of the Hyundai Santa Cruz (based on the Hyundai Tucson) and the Farizon FX (stands on the Geely Azcarra).
The new BYD-branded truck has two vertically-aligned taillight units joined by a thin LED strip. Plastic trim around the lower body increases the practicality. The car’s fuel door sits in the rear left fender, while the charging port cover is located in the right one. Other features of the BYD pickup truck include roof racks, a roll bar, and a rearview camera.
There is no information about the specs of this model. Chinese sources previously reported that this model would adopt the DMO plug-in hybrid system similar to the Shark 6 pickup truck. However, there is a possibility it will be equipped with less capable DM-i or DM-p powertrains. More on this model as we get it.
