WALLER COUNTY, Texas – Deputies believe a suspect was able to escape a vehicle after it crashed into a lake during a chase with Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Thursday morning.
HCSO said deputies attempted to stop a stolen vehicle on Cypress and 290, but when the driver refused, a chase started into Waller County.
Eventually, members of the Waller County Sheriff’s Office deployed spikes on the road, causing the vehicle to crash into a lake off 290 and east of James Muse Parkway.
Deputies, at first, believed the suspect was still inside the vehicle, but when dive teams went to search for the car, the suspect was not inside.
Deputies are now saying it’s not clear if the suspect intentionally crashed the vehicle into the lake, nor do they have any idea who the suspect is. It’s not clear if anyone else was inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The James Muse exit on 290 is currently closed while dive teams continue to search the lake.
