One lane in each direction of U.S. 33 in Union County has reopened some 10 hours after a crash involving a tanker truck spilled flammable liquid onto the roadway, stalling traffic and closing the roadway.
The crash was reported Oct. 23 just before 11:30 a.m. on U.S. 33 in the area of Waldo Road between U.S. Routes 36 and 31, according to a statement from the Marysville Division of Fire. A tanker was hauling a flammable liquid when it collided with another semitruck and a camper, according to the fire department.
The flammable liquid, which fire officials did not identify, spilled out onto the roadway following the crash. Marysville fire crews were eventually able to stop the flow of the liquid and prevent more of it from spilling into the environment, the fire department said.
Officials from the Union County Emergency Management Agency and the Ohio Environmental Protective Agency were on scene and provided assistance to fire crews and the police.
There were no injuries in the crash, but all vehicles sustained “disabling damage,” according to the fire department.
A photo from the scene of the crash taken by a Dispatch photographer showed a tanker off the highway in the median between the lanes.
The Marysville Division of Police is investigating the crash.
