A man died after fleeing an attempted traffic stop then crashing his car into a pole in Ellicott City, police said.
Around 9:38 a.m., an officer in an unmarked Howard County Police vehicle attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2013 Honda Accord in the area of Route 29 and Rogers Avenue (the northern end of Route 29).

The vehicle fled from the attempted stop. The officer did not pursue the fleeing car.
Shortly after, the vehicle struck a utility pole while traveling south on Rogers Avenue near Faber Way.
The driver, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the car.
The area in which the accident occurred was closed for roughly six hours following the incident, but has since reopened.
An investigation remains ongoing.
