The most radical AMG GT yet looks ready to succeed the Black Series with racecar performance and handling
The second-generation Mercedes-AMG GT lineup might currently lack something as extreme as the now-retired Black Series, but that may not remain true for long. Mercedes appears to be preparing a wilder, more hardcore member of the GT family, one that could return the badge to its boundary-pushing roots.
The company has shared photos of the Concept AMG GT Track Sport undergoing development testing, hinting strongly at a new, track-focused variant in the works.

This prototype looks like it’s built for lap times rather than leisurely drives. With an aggressive aero setup and a long hood concealing a V8 engine, the concept seems poised to take aim at cars like the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, its most obvious benchmark in both intent and attitude.
Wild Aero
First teased a few months back, the latest images show a camouflaged prototype that gives away far more than before. At first glance, it could easily be mistaken for a GT3 race car thanks to its towering swan-neck rear wing, side-mounted exhausts, vented hood, and sharp front splitter.
Despite the motorsport appearance, it’s expected to remain street legal, so buyers should be able to order one from an AMG showroom rather than a pit lane.
Street-Legal, Barely
Overall, the Track Sport appears to have a significantly redesigned body compared to the rest of the AMG GT lineup. Notable differences include the wider stance, the extended tail, and the longer dash-to-axle ratio suggesting structural changes.
From what’s visible, shared exterior elements might be limited to the headlights, greenhouse, and mirrors.

The concept is currently going through intensive testing on various test tracks and race circuits. The company describes it as the “youngest and most impressive offshoot of the GT family” adding that it “takes a significant step further in terms of radicalism and uncompromising design” with a focus on “maximum driving dynamics”.
What Powers It?
AMG has confirmed that the Track Sport is powered by “V8 drive technology” although it is not clear if the powertrain will have some sort of electrification. They also mentioned a “further optimized weight balance” and an “intelligent lightweight construction”, all but confirming our earlier suspicions.
At the moment, the most powerful non-electrified twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 in the AMG GT 63 S generates 603 hp (450 kW / 611 PS), while the plug-in hybrid setup of the E Performance variant has a combined output of 805 hp (600 kW / 816 PS). It wouldn’t be surprising if the Track Sport surpasses both, taking its place at the top of the lineup.
Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Management Board of Mercedes‑AMG GmbH commented:
“With the Concept AMG GT Track Sport, we are once again exploring the limits of what is possible. We have a world-class team working on this concept with incomparable AMG spirit. It takes us to the physical and driving dynamics limit. We have a vision and make a promise: The future will be extreme.”
What Else is AMG Planning?
Beyond this track-honed AMG GT, Mercedes is also considering a fully electric two-door coupe offering, although the timing of its launch depends on market conditions. If approved, it could join the production version of the four-door AMG GTXX concept, which is expected to arrive next year with 1,341 hp (1,000 kW / 1,360 PS) from a tri-motor setup.
