A car crashed through the fence of a Scots primary school while pupils were in classes on Thursday afternoon leaving a man hospitalised.
Emergency services were called to St Mary’s R.C. Primary School in Bonnyrigg around 12.50pm on October 30 following reports of a single-vehicle collision.
Photos from the scene show a white car overturned after apparently striking the school’s perimeter fence, reports EdingburghLive.
Midlothian Council confirmed that no pupils or staff were injured in the incident. The 51-year-old driver was taken to hospital, and police say inquiries are ongoing to determine the full circumstances.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.50pm on Thursday, 30 October, we received a report of a one-car crash on Rosewell Road in Bonnyrigg. Emergency services attended and the driver, a 51-year-old man, was taken to hospital with minor injuries. No one else was hurt. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

A spokesperson for Midlothian Council added: “Midlothian Council is aware of a road traffic accident that occurred outside St Mary’s Primary School, Bonnyrigg, earlier today. We can confirm that no children or staff at the school have been harmed. Contingency arrangements are in place for the end of the school day, and parents and carers have been notified.
“Police remain on scene, and vehicle recovery is underway. Council staff are also addressing street lighting damage and ensuring public safety. Thank you for your understanding as we work to resolve the situation promptly.”
