A man has died after a truck and car collided on the Barton Highway in southern New South Wales this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the scene around 1.40pm.
The 78-year-old driver of the car died at the scene.
The Barton Highway is closed in both directions between Nanima Road and Murrumbateman Road after the collision at Jeir, 30 kilometres south of Yass. (ABC News: Phil Jaiyawong )
Paramedics treated the driver of the truck, a man believed to be in his 40s, at the scene before he was taken to Yass Hospital for mandatory testing.
Police have established a crime scene and are continuing to investigate.
A spate of crashes across NSW sees the state's road toll on track to be the worst in 15 years.
The highway is currently closed in both directions between Nanima Road and Murrumbateman Road after the collision at Jeir, 30 kilometres south of Yass.
Detours are in place for drivers.
Police are calling for anyone in the area at the time of the crash to contact Crime Stoppers.
To date, 225 lives have been lost on NSW roads, compared to 194 at the same time last year.
