Waterford new car registrations October 2025 figures show that the county continues to outperform the national market, with both overall car sales and electric vehicle registrations rising compared to last year.
According to the latest report from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI), 2,667 new cars were registered in Waterford between January and October 2025 , a 6.04% increase on the 2,515 recorded in the same period last year. This means Waterford now accounts for 2.15% of all new car sales nationwide, showing steady growth even as national figures fell.
Across Ireland, overall new car registrations for October dropped by 9.3%, but Waterford’s figures highlight stronger local demand, particularly in the electric vehicle (EV) sector.
Electric vehicles are driving much of the growth. SIMI’s data shows 476 new electric cars registered in Waterford so far this year — a 31.86% jump on 2024’s total of 361. EVs now make up just over 2% of all new electric vehicle sales nationwide, confirming that Waterford drivers are increasingly choosing sustainable options.
Nationally, new car registrations are up 3.4% year-to-date, but October’s dip contrasts with Waterford’s continued momentum. The figures suggest strong consumer confidence in the county and growing interest in environmentally friendly vehicles.
As Ireland continues its shift toward electrification, Waterford new car registrations October 2025 stand out as a positive indicator of local growth and the region’s support for a greener transport future.
