The Exeed Tianji is a new Chinese SUV that looks so far ahead of its time that it could redefine automotive design for good.
It might well be the Year of the Wood Snake in the Chinese calendar, but 2025 would be more aptly named the Year of the EV, as the Asian market has erupted.
Having finally found the winning recipe to make affordable luxury cars, the Chinese SUV market specifically has seen major improvements this year.
But there’s no resting on their laurels, as Chery, a renowned Chinese SUV maker, has produced a concept ready for 2027 that looks like it’s meant for 2057.

First revealed at the Shanghai Auto Show, the Exeed Tianji is the latest in a line of massive cars in the Chery fleet.
Having been the brand that walked so BYD could run, the Chery SUV range has had worldwide car enthusiasts weak at the knees in praise and awe.
But while the brand has moved with the times to undercut the steep prices of European and American cars with a new affordable range, it’s also been putting its expertise to practice with a new concept.
The Exeed Tianji is a Range Rover-esque six-seater Chinese SUV that is set to arrive in 2027, and it exudes luxury without the same price tag.
But its real innovation and beauty is with the LED light work.
To ensure it never goes unnoticed on the road, the headlamps warp like they’re about to unleash Optimus Prime, putting on a full show to unravel the 3D design.
It’s a small detail, but also one that shows that headlights don’t need to be stagnant and boring, and can be pushed further with the help of transitions and innovative design.
Elsewhere, the futuristic design follows. With a Formula 1-style wheel and a front dash that appears fully customizable, you can have everything you need to feel like Max Verstappen but with a cushty bum on the heated leather seats.
Powertrain: Four AWD motors creating ~1,180HP (
Top Speed: TBA
0–62 mph: TBA
Autonomous Driving: Falcon 900 system, LiDAR, and radar sensors
Drive Modes: 7D intelligent all-terrain system, air suspension, rear-wheel steering
Starting Price: Estimated to be $41,500
While the estimated price has not been confirmed by Chery, given orders will only begin in 2027, it wouldn’t be a steep increase from its already-affordable SUV fleet.
For example, the popular Tiggo 4 Pro from Chery is one of the biggest sellers on foreign soil and costs just $17,000.
Exeed’s current large 3-row PHEV started China presales at 239,900 RMB (~US$33k), which suggests that the Tianji would be slightly higher.
But, this behemoth luxury car is likely to sit under the $44,000 MSRP for the long-range Tesla Model Y.
The Chinese SUV game is getting increasingly special, and Chery might have just found the golden ticket to worldwide domination in this genre.
