A MAJOR UK motorway has closed after a car smashed into a barrier and landed on its side – sparking travel chaos.
Motorists travelling on the M1 near Aston, South Yorkshire, have been warned to expect severe delays following the crash this morning.

Emergency services were scrambled to the northbound carriageway following the collision at around 5.30am.
It is understood the vehicle smashed into the nearside barrier before crashing down on its side.
The busy route is now shut between Junction 30, for Balborough, and Junction 31, for Aston.
National Highways confirmed recovery teams are on the scene as they clear debris and a spillage following the smash.

It said: “The M1 in South Yorkshire is closed northbound between J30 (Barlborough) and J31 (Aston), due to a collision.
“At approximately 05:30 this morning, National Highways were made aware of an incident whereby a vehicle collided with the nearside barrier.
“South Yorkshire Police, Fire, Ambulance Services and National Highways Traffic Officers are currently in attendance.”
Diversions are currently in place for drivers to avoid the closure.
