Drivers have been urged to avoid Gillygate in York
A busy route into York city centre has been closed after a pedestrian was hit by a car.
North Yorkshire Police said the "serious" incident happened on Gillygate at around 05:30 GMT on Monday.
The road has been shut while emergency services are at the scene, and motorists are advised to avoid the area "until further notice" and follow diversions.
The condition of the pedestrian has not been confirmed. Anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage is asked to come forward.
