Delhi News Blast Live Updates: A powerful blast rocked the national capital on Monday evening, as a high-intensity explosion ripped through a car parked near the busy area of high-security Red Fort metro station.
Eight deaths have been reported due to the Delhi blast so far. 18 injured persons are admitted to the LNJP hospital.
Two people have been detained for questioning regarding ownership of the car.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of the situation and is in touch with Home Minister Amit Shah, according to government sources. PM Modi also expressed condolences over the loss of lives. Home Minister Shah has arrived at the hospital to meet injured. He also spoke with security and intelligence officials and is updating PM Modi on investigations.
Police have sounded a high alert in Delhi. However, it has not been confirmed yet whether the Red Fort explosion was a bomb blast. Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra has also been put on high alert over the incident.
Seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot with police cordoning off the area, the Delhi Fire Services said.
The blast was so powerful that it shattered windows of vehicles parked several metres away and was heard in nearby buildings of the congested area.
“The blast occurred in a car parked near Red Fort metro station gate number 1. The intensity was quite high. Injuries are feared,” said a senior official of Delhi Fire Service.
Visuals of the incident showed plumes of fire billowing from the burning cars.
“Horrifying reports from Delhi. My thoughts are with the families of those killed, the emergency responders & the Indian people, as they confront this dark moment.The UK Government must support British nationals in Delhi & respond to requests for assistance,” Patel said in an X post.
“Extremely distressing to hear about the news of a car explosion near Red Fort Metro Station, Delhi. Initial reports suggest that several precious lives have been lost in this incident. In this moment of grief, our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families, and we pray for the swift recovery of the injured. The government must ensure a prompt and thorough investigation into this blast which has taken in a high security and often crowded place, so that those responsible for this lapse and incident are held accountable.”

Following the Delhi bomb blast, Ahmedabad in Gujarat has been placed on high alert. Police have intensified checking across the city, especially at railway stations where incoming vehicles are being thoroughly inspected. DCP Rupal Solanki stated that security measures have been strengthened to ensure public safety, PTI reports.
“Strongly condemn the heinous blast near Delhi’s #RedFort. This cowardly act is an attack on our nation and its people. Heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. Kerala stands in steadfast solidarity with the people of Delhi in this hour of grief. Urge the authorities to ensure that those behind this heinous act are brought to justice without delay. Such forces that threaten our nation’s peace must be defeated,” Vijayan said in an X post.
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann posts, “I have received the tragic news of the bomb blast that occurred near the Red Fort in Delhi, in which several people have reportedly died a painful death and many others are said to be seriously injured. A high-level investigation should be conducted into this incident that took place in the country’s capital, and the culprits should be given the strictest possible punishment. We pray to the Almighty for the peace of the souls of the pedestrians who lost their lives in this accident and wish for the swift recovery of the injured.”
Sandeep Kumar, spokesperson for Gurugram Police, said that the car used in the blast was originally registered to a Gurugram resident identified as Salman. “He had sold the vehicle to a man named Devender, a resident of Okhla, around one and a half years ago. We have handed over Salman to the Delhi Police. Devender has been arrested by Delhi Police, and both are being questioned to trace the subsequent sale and establish the complete chain of ownership,” Kumar said, as per HT.
The spokesperson said that the car was later sold to someone in Ambala but they don’t have further details.

“On behalf of the People and Government of Argentina we convey our condolences to those who lost loved ones as a consequence of the Red Fort blast. “Every possible assistance is being ensured for the affected people. Teams from the Delhi Police, NSG, NIA, and FSL are working together to conduct a thorough investigation into the entire matter,” she further added.
“I appeal to all Delhi residents to avoid rumors and maintain peace. Please rely only on official information issued by the police and administration.”

“Anguished by the loss of lives in the tragic car blast in New Delhi. My heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. Praying for the swift recovery of the injured. Authorities are ensuring that all necessary medical assistance reaches the injured,” the Union Minister said.
CISF posts, “In the wake of the explosion in a vehicle near Red Fort Metro station, installations secured by CISF in the National Capital Region (NCR) including Delhi Metro, Red Fort, Government Buildings and IGI Airport have been placed on high alert. The situation is being constantly monitored and personnel are on standby.”
“A blast took place in a Hyundai i20 car near the Red Fort in Delhi today at around 7 pm. Due to the blast, 3-4 vehicles were damaged, and people also got injured, and some died. As per Hospital sources, eight people have died so far. Some of the injured are being treated here. We have launched a thorough investigation, keeping all angles open. As soon as the blast was reported, the Delhi Police Special Cell, Crime Branch, NIA team, SPG team, and FSL team arrived at the scene and are conducting all investigations expeditiously. I hope our agencies will reach a conclusion on the cause of the blast within a short time, and the senior-most FSL team has also arrived. I received a call from the Prime Minister immediately after receiving the news of the blast. After taking the preliminary information, I also briefed the Prime Minister. I am leaving from here to visit the site, and tomorrow morning, a meeting will be conducted with a team of senior officials at the Home Ministry to investigate the details…”
The Home Minister, while speaking to the media, says all angles are being probed thoroughly.
“The blast in India’s capital city Delhi at a super busy location is a source of concern and yet again raises questions about our intelligence gathering and preparedness. My heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this massive tragedy and wishes for a speedy recovery for those injured,” the Sena (UBT) leader said.
“Shocked and deeply pained by the explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort that has taken several innocent lives. Visuals from the site are truly heartbreaking,” the TN CM said in an X post.
“My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and my thoughts are with those battling injuries. Wishing them strength and a swift recovery,” he added.
“The forensic team reached there, it will come out whether any explosive material was used. Arrests of terrorists have been ongoing in Faridabad, Gujarat, UP, maybe there would be their splinter group who carried out this. We need to be alert,” the former DGP told PTI.

Visuals on TV channels showed Home Minister Amit Shah taking to victims at LNJP hospital after he chaired a meeting with senior security officials.
“The car blast incident in Delhi is extremely painful and disturbing. At this moment of immense grief, I extend my sincerest condolences to the families of the deceased. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured,” Rajnath said in an X post.
“Very disturbed by the news of the #RedFort blast. I pray for the swift recovery of the injured and patience for those who lost their dear ones. I hope for a thorough and swift investigation. Those responsible for this condemnable act must receive the maximum punishment under the law,” the AIMIM chief said in an X post.
Mangled bodies lying on vehicles and road, pieces of flesh scattered on the streets and flames rising up to the sky… recalled the eyewitnesses of a high-intensity explosion that ripped through a slow-moving car close to the Red Fort metro station here on Monday.
While I was standing and talking to someone, a body part… a hand, with the man’s shirt still on it, fell right behind me, Amit Mudgal (36) told PTI.
