Officers responded to Waverly Road around 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, after a homeowner reported a Chevrolet Trailblazer and Mercedes GLE350 had been stolen. The owners told investigators they had left the keys inside the vehicles, police said.
A Darien officer later spotted both stolen cars speeding on Post Road near Old Kings Highway South, but the drivers took off when officers tried to stop them, authorities said.
A third vehicle, a Land Rover LR4, was also reported stolen from nearby Mayflower Road under similar circumstances, police said.
All three stolen vehicles were later recovered with help from Bridgeport police, according to the department. Authorities reminded residents to lock their vehicles and never leave keys inside.
Darien police also reported several car break-ins on Post Road, Old Farm Road, and Harbor Road on Sunday, Nov. 9.
Officers said several suspects wearing hooded sweatshirts and masks tried to enter unlocked cars in each case.
Few items were taken, but police said the incidents serve as a reminder to keep vehicles locked and valuables out of sight.
