Only one category of car sale will be allowed on the platform for now
JUST months after partnering with its first automaker, Amazon Autos has expanded its scope to include the Blue Oval.
Customers will now be able to start, finish, and pickup their Ford vehicles through the app, not needing to go into a dealership until it’s time to pick up their new ride.

The legacy manufacturer’s franchised dealers will now be able to sell their certified pre-owned vehicles through Amazon Autos.
“The addition of Ford certified pre-owned vehicles to Amazon Autos represents an exciting expansion of our store, giving customers access to thousands of quality vehicles backed by Ford’s comprehensive inspection and warranty programs,” said Amazon Autos global leader Fan Jin in a press release.
On the platform, prospective purchasers can secure financing, and start and complete paperwork without ever stepping foot into a Ford dealership.
They will, however, need to pick up their vehicle at a dealership and possibly complete other steps, such as a final signature agreeing to the sale, in person.

Ford shared on Monday that over 160 of its roughly 2,900 dealers across the United States have started the process with Amazon.
In the same update, it added that roughly a dozen retailers are fully onboarded and launched, with about another 10 launching next week.
The company confirmed that its vehicles are available to purchase on the platform in Los Angeles, California, Seattle, Washington, and Dallas, Texas. Plans to expand into additional cities in the coming months are in place.
Vehicles sold through Amazon Autos will come with a 14-day or 1,000-mile money-back guarantee through Ford. The manufacturer will also offer three levels of CPO certification, each with varying warranty coverages.

Ford joins Hyundai as the only original equipment manufacturers currently on the platform, both exclusively selling used vehicles due to the more relaxed laws for that process in comparison to selling new vehicles.
Amazon Autos also previously partnered with Hertz Car Sales to sell its inventory of pre-owned cars, which notably offer a variety of makes and models.
In a similar process to purchasing a Ford vehicle, customers buying from Hertz’s inventory can also browse and purchase from the comfort of their homes until its time to pick up their vehicle.
