#1 FOR NEW COUNTRY
Indiana State Police have announced a new lineup of vehicles. Earlier this month, the 87th recruitment class of the Indiana State Police Academy received its first patrol vehicles. No seniority is necessary; these 20 lucky rookies get brand-new Durangos. Indiana Governor Mike Braun had this to say:
“As these new Troopers begin their service, they carry forward a proud tradition of protecting Hoosiers with integrity and courage. The new patrol vehicles are a fitting way to mark this next chapter—honoring our history while equipping the Indiana State Police for the future.”
For the first time in 60 years, the State Police are using the blue design. During the 1960s, the patrol cars were white over blue (as seen below), switching to all-white in 1966. By the late 1990's the ISP had moved to all-black patrol cars, with white not reappearing until the early 2000s. The Indiana State Police website has an excellent archive with several historical factors regarding the fleet. Additionally, the ISP has added five new Ford Mustangs to the fleet for those lead-foot folks like myself. According to the Gibson County News & Talk Facebook page, of the districts receiving the speed demons, Evansville and Sellersburg are included. The Evansville district includes the following counties: Gibson, Vanderburgh, Posey, Pike, Warrick, and Knox. The Sellersburg vehicle will most likely be used for patrolling the I-64 corridor near Louisville and New Albany. For a detailed look into the new vehicles, including purchase information and vehicle details, check out this excellent write-up from the Indiana Capital Chronicle. Pictures of all of the new vehicles can be seen below, but check out this video about the mustangs first:
New cars mean a new era for the ISP, and they're always recruiting new rookies! While internships are currently closed, they'll be available for application sometime in February 2026. If you're interested in learning more about the ISP, they offer ride-along opportunities as well as strength and conditioning information to prepare for physical testing. Think you have what it takes to protect the people of the Hoosier state? Get all the details here, as well as all public information regarding the ISP.
