A man has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Mossley Hill this evening. Emergency services were called to the junction of Allerton Road and Mapledale Road at around 5.10pm on November 18 following reports of a collision involving a male pedestrian and a vehicle. Merseyside Police confirmed the man was taken to hospital for assessment of his injuries.
A police cordon has been set up at the scene, with the road closed at the junction of Allerton Road and Rose Lane. Traffic is currently being diverted towards Calderstones Road.
The incident has caused significant disruption in the area.
One witness said "four double-decker buses and a single bus are stuck behind the crash and can't move."
Arrive North West also reported severe delays. A statement posted to X said: "Due to a serious police incident at Allerton Rd, services 61, 61A, 68, 80, 80A, 86A and 201 are all currently subject to severe delays and possible cancellations.
"Please allow significant extra time for your journey."
Traffic monitoring service Inrix reported: "Allerton Road northbound closed, slow traffic due to accident between Green Lane and Limedale Road."
Police remain at the scene.
Travel conditions have been made worse by heavy flooding on the road following prolonged rainfall this evening.
Across Merseyside, multiple routes have been affected or closed due to adverse weather.
Princes Road and Ullet Road in Toxteth were left partially submerged after significant flooding, while part of Queens Drive was forced to close due to deep water.
In Prescot, Carr Lane was shut in both directions as flooding made the route impassable.
