The US electric car subscription service Autonomy has announced a $25 million expansion of its fleet, which will see it acquire 1,250 new electric cars from brands such as Volvo, Polestar and Tesla. Until now, Autonomy has only offered Teslas.
According to the company, the expansion of the electric vehicle fleet has already begun. Among others, the Polestar 2, Tesla Model 3 Highland and Tesla Model Y Juniper are currently being integrated into the Autonomy fleet. The basis for the procurement of additional electric vehicles is a $25 million loan from SR Alternative Credit (via Finacity Corporation), which Autonomy intends to use to diversify its offering and expand its subscription platform.
Until now, Autonomy has focused solely on Tesla vehicles. However, the new procurement round will now also include Volvo and Polestar models “to offer more models and price categories, including both current models and lease returns,” as the company explains in a statement we have received. Autonomy also states that it is “already working with Volvo and other car manufacturers to secure additional vehicles.”
Autonomy currently operates in California, Texas, Florida, Washington, Arizona, North Carolina and New York. The business model is designed so that customers can easily sign up for a subscription via an app and start driving right away. The company’s brand promise is therefore ‘Download & Drive’. “Autonomy’s goal is to make getting a car as easy as streaming a movie and to do it on the customer’s terms,” commented Scott Painter, founder and CEO of Autonomy. “By introducing additional brands, as well as recent model-year and off-lease vehicles, we are expanding access to mobility for a wider range of customers.”
In Los Angeles, the launch of Polestar vehicles is being supported by partner Galpin Motors. Customers there have access to the vehicles, services and the option to change vehicles as needed. Autonomy has also brought partner Deloitte on board for customer service.
